Breaking the cycle of foster care
Lakeisha's Safe Families story

Like most youth who age out of foster care, Lakeisha found herself navigating life on her own, without a family’s support. Months after giving birth to twins, she needed surgery so she could hold and care for her babies without pain. She didn’t know what to do.
A program for first-time mothers connected her with Safe Families for Children at Bethany, and a host family cared for Lakeisha’s newborn daughters through her recovery. That experience led to a friendship between the two families that has spanned more than 10 years. Safe Families helped Lakeisha break the cycle of foster care by providing a family when she needed it most.
