“The Talk”: Confronting Racism, Injustice, and Inequity

We mourn for George Floyd, Ahmaud Arbery, Breonna Taylor, Eric Garner, Sandra Bland, Trayvon Martin, and the countless more victims who were killed because of the color of their skin.
We lament that racism, injustice, and inequity are alive today.
We stand against the broken systems that cause black children and families to be overrepresented in the foster care system, to have higher maternal and infant mortality rates, to live with the trauma of fearing for their lives during everyday activities.
At Bethany Christian Services, we confess that we haven't always gotten it right. But we won’t be silent about the individual and institutional racism in our country that causes black and brown people to be treated as less than children uniquely made in the image of their Creator.
We will champion justice by advocating for changed hearts and better systems.
We will elevate the voices of people from black communities within our own systems to lead change.
We will pray that ‘justice rolls down like water and righteousness like a mighty stream.’
Reverend Marben Bland, pastor of New Bethel AME in Dublin, Georgia and member of Bethany’s corporate board, recently urged Bethany’s 1,500 staff in the U.S. and around the world to respond to racism, injustice, and inequity by talking the talk of Jesus.
