Statement from Bethany Christian Services on the Election
November 09, 2020
Following the election of Joe Biden and Kamala Harris as President and Vice President of the United States, Bethany Christian Services President & CEO Chris Palusky issued the following statement:
For over 75 years, Bethany Christian Services has worked with churches and governments at all levels to serve vulnerable children and families in the U.S. and around the world. Bethany’s mission is to demonstrate the love and compassion of Jesus Christ, impacting hundreds of thousands of lives every year.
We congratulate President-elect Joe Biden and Vice President-elect Kamala Harris on their victory, and we look forward to working with a Biden administration to continue changing the world through family. Like President-elect Biden, we trust that faith is a force that can sustain, heal, and unify our nation.
The challenges people face today call us to go further than ever. More than 400,000 children are in the U.S. foster care system, 140 million orphans are living outside the love and protection a family provides, 80 million people are displaced from their homes, and a global pandemic is making all of them even more vulnerable. While these numbers are daunting, we know that behind every number is a name, every name has a story, and every story is precious to God.
We hope the Biden administration finds Christian churches and faith-based organizations as partners to help address the greatest crises of our time. I recently called on Christians to be peacemakers and to remember that “Our bottom line is caring for children and families—no matter who they are or where they are from—because they are all made in God’s image.”
In the spirit of 1 Timothy 2:1-2, we pray for and ask God's blessing for President Trump, Vice President Pence, President-elect Biden, and Vice President-elect Harris. May we all recognize the inherent value God has given each one of us and be known as peacemakers.
About Bethany Bethany is an international Christian nonprofit that is changing the world through family. 75 years ago, we began our work by serving one child. Today, we partner with churches and communities in more than 30 states and nearly a dozen countries, impacting hundreds of thousands of lives each year. Bethany demonstrates the love and compassion of Jesus by strengthening and preserving families, finding new families for children who need them, and supporting refugees and immigrants who have fled danger, because everyone deserves to be safe, loved, and connected.
