Bethany Christian Services receives $10,000 grant to support families

July 15, 2024

SOUTHFIELD, Mich. – Bethany Christian Services was recently awarded a $10,000 grant from the Community Foundation of Greater Flint to address the challenges of poverty and basic needs of families in the foster care system.

This grant will help families in Genesee County by providing birth families specialized training, independent housing, transportation assistance and generalized support to ensure their family's well-being and safety.

Across the United States, more than 60% of family separations in the foster care system are associated with neglect, often directly coinciding with families living in poverty. A solution to this is strengthening and supporting parents living in poverty and reuniting their children whenever safely possible by addressing the barriers that initially brought their family into foster care.

“We’re so grateful to the Community Foundation of Greater Flint for their generosity and their commitment to our shared vision - making a lasting impact on the lives of those who need it most,” said Tarsha Gale, Branch Director of Bethany Christian Services in Southeast Michigan. “The wellbeing and safety of families and youth affected by the child welfare system is crucial, and this grant will help so many families.”
